How to prepare a CV that gets you shortlisted

Every placement we make starts the same way: with a CV review. Before any interview, any employer selection and any job offer, someone on our team reads your CV and decides whether it matches an employer's requirements. This article explains what we actually look for, so your application gives you the best possible chance.

What a CV review really checks

Employers give us specific requirements: the role, the experience needed, and the start date. When we review CVs, we are matching against those requirements, nothing more mysterious than that. A shortlisted CV is simply one where the match is easy to see.

That leads to the most important rule: make your relevant experience impossible to miss. If an employer needs a welder, the word "welder" and your years of welding work should be visible in the first seconds of reading, not buried in paragraph four.

The information your CV must contain

Keep the structure simple and complete:

• Personal details: full name exactly as in your passport, date of birth, nationality, phone number (with WhatsApp if you have it) and email address.
• The work you are seeking: name the trade or role clearly, for example mason, machine operator, housekeeping, forklift operator.
• Work experience: each job with the employer, country, dates, and what you actually did. Be specific: "steel fixing on residential projects, 4 years" tells us far more than "construction work."
• Skills and certificates: trade certificates, licenses, equipment you can operate, and any safety training. Mention the languages you speak, including your level of English.
• Education: briefly. For most roles, your work experience matters more.

Save the file as PDF or Word, and name it with your own name, not "CV_final_2.doc".

Honesty is a practical matter, not just a moral one

Everything in your CV will be checked. Document verification is a standard part of our process, and employers interview shortlisted candidates personally. Experience you do not have will be discovered, at the latest in your first week on the job, and a placement that fails because of a false CV hurts you most of all: you have traveled, committed, and must start again.

The reverse is also true. An honest CV with modest experience, matched to the right role, leads to a placement that lasts. We recruit for helper and general labour roles as well as skilled trades. There is a right role for a genuine CV.

Common mistakes that cost candidates a shortlist

After thousands of CV reviews, the same problems come up again and again:

1. No clear target role. A CV that says "any work" is hard to match to anything.
2. Missing dates. Experience without dates cannot be verified or weighed.
3. Unreachable contacts. A wrong phone number ends an application instantly. Check every digit.
4. Details that do not match your documents. Your name and date of birth must match your passport exactly. Small mismatches cause big delays later in the permit process.
5. Photos of paper CVs. Send a proper file, not a photograph of a page.
